So today while I was bored at work, this name popped into my head: Betty Betancourt. It seemed like the most fun, adorable name in the world. Plus it’s an alliteration, which are my favorites. So of course, my imagination went crazy. I decided she is a curvaceous, black-haired super hero from Brooklyn. (Marvel has recently taken over my mind so I’ve got super heroes and comics on the brain.) But she can’t just be any old super hero, she has to be special. What could she fight? It had to be an alliteration…. BULLIES! Thus, Betty Betancourt the Bully Battling Bombshell was born.

So, I’m starting another one of my projects that I probably won’t finish but would love to give a shot. I want to turn Betty into an anti-bullying web comic. I wasn’t really bullied all too much as a kid. I got poked a few times for having a boys name (Alex) and for having frizzy hair (which Betty will have as well), but other than that, I attracted little attention from the “mean kids” in my class. But I know that Tumblr is full of not only beautiful people, but people in pain. People who’s pain has made them beautiful. People who have been poked, and worse, for things about them that should be celebrated by others.

I am asking for your stories. It could be a few sentences or you can write me about every single time someone called you a name. I want Betty to fight the bullies you couldn’t. Of course no one’s names would be used - send me everything anon (unless you really don’t want to.) But I’d love for someone to read a Betty comic and see themselves and the strength they know they have in Betty.

I’m going to write the comics myself and once I have a decent amount of material, I’d like to try and find an artist. I feel like this could combine all the things I really like and care about - feminism, body positivity, anti-bullying, Tumblr, writing, comics and New Yorkers. :)

So please. Send me a story of how you were bullied. As a kid or as an adult. By a stranger or by  your family. Every little bit helps. :)
